Smart Tech or Hot War: The Future Space of Conflict

In this commentary, BIPSS Research Assistant Farhana Rashid explores how artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons, cyber warfare, drones, and quantum technologies are reshaping the future of conflict. She examines the shift from conventional warfare toward increasingly data-driven, networked, and algorithmic battlefields, where technological superiority can be as decisive as traditional military strength. The commentary also highlights the risks of rapid escalation, miscalculation, ethical dilemmas, and growing dependence on smart technologies in warfare. Drawing on recent global conflicts, it argues that emerging technologies will not replace conventional warfare but increasingly accelerate and transform it. Finally, the commentary discusses the implications for South Asia and Bangladesh, emphasizing cybersecurity, strategic resilience, responsible technological adoption, and the continued importance of human judgment.
