China’s Electric Century: How the Electro state Is Winning the Energy Geopolitical Race

In this commentary, BIPSS Research Assistant Farhana Rashid examines how China is emerging as the world’s foremost “electrostate” by dominating critical parts of the global clean-energy supply chain, from electric vehicles and batteries to solar technology and critical mineral processing. The commentary explores how Beijing’s industrial policy, resource diplomacy, Belt and Road investments, and strategic export controls are translating technological and economic dominance into geopolitical leverage. It also examines the growing competition from the United States and European Union and the risks of new forms of dependency for the Global South. For Bangladesh, the commentary highlights both the opportunities offered by Chinese clean-energy investment and the need to diversify suppliers and strengthen domestic technological capacity.
