Building Awareness to Combat Fake News and Disinformation

The Bangladesh Institution of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and USAID, organized a thought-provoking workshop on “Building Awareness to Combat Fake News and Disinformation” at Hotel Bengal Blueberry.

In this era of rapid information sharing, it’s crucial to verify sources and think critically before believing or sharing news. We explored the dark web, discussed the dangers of unregulated media, and shared strategies to counter fake news effectively.

The speakers of the workshop Mr. Shafqat Munir, Head of BCTR, Senior Fellow at BIPSS, and Ms. Ayesha Kabir, Head of English Web at Prothom Alo, respectively shared their valuable insights and experiences in the workshop followed by an interactive session with the participants. The participants were mostly university students.

It was an insightful and empowering event, emphasizing the need for responsible news consumption and digital citizenship.
