Bangladesh Institution of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and USAID, organized a workshop on “Building Awareness to Combat Fake News and Disinformation” at The Westin, Dhaka.
It is essential to check sources and exercise critical thinking in this age of instantaneous information sharing before accepting or disseminating news. We looked into the black web, discussed the risks associated with unrestricted media, and exchanged ideas on how to effectively counter fake news.
The speakers of the workshop Mr. Shafqat Munir, Head of BCTR, Senior Fellow at BIPSS, and Ms. Tasnuva Alam Ahona, Journalism Fellow, DW Academie, Bangladesh shared their valuable insights and experiences in the workshop followed by an interactive session with the participants. The participants were university students and journalists.
It was an insightful and empowering event, emphasizing the need for responsible news consumption and digital citizenship.
