Instability in Myanmar: Implications for Bangladesh and the Region
BIPSS, in partnership with DhakaTribune, recently hosted a roundtable on “Instability in Myanmar: Implications for Bangladesh and the Region” at The Westin Dhaka. The event was moderated by Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (Retd), President, BIPSS and Mr. Zafar Sobhan, Editor of The Dhaka Tribune.
The Roundtable had an expert panel comprising Parvez Karim Abbasi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Major General Md Shahidul Haque, psc (Retd), Former Defence Attaché to Myanmar & Former Ambassador to Libya and Umme Salma Tarin, Assistant Professor, Department of International Relations, Bangladesh University of Professionals.
The session was attended by senior members of the diplomatic community, government officials, defence personnel, academics, editors, journalists, scholars and students from different universities.
The discussion centered on Myanmar’s insurgent activities in the Southeast Asian region and how its impact is causing insecurity in Bangladesh and beyond. The roundtable was a unique event as experts from different fields of expertise gave their opinions and analysis on the ongoing tensions and urged the policymakers to make coherent strategies for security implications.
