BIPSS Discussion Session with US Ambassador to Bangladesh May 21, 2012
Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) held a Discussion Session: “In Conversation with H.E. Dan Mozena, US Ambassador to Bangladesh” on May 21, 2012 at La Vita Hall, Hotel Lakeshore, Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The ambassador H.E. Dan Mozena shared his opinion on ‘US Policy towards Bangladesh’. The Discussion Session was moderated by BIPSS President Major General Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc, (Retd.)
In the Session, US Ambassador acknowledged that engagement with Bangladesh is in the key strategic interest of the USA and Bangladesh is one of the priorities in the shifting US policy towards Indo-Pacific region. Hilary Clinton’s last visit was the institutionalization of the US strategic engagement with Bangladesh. Speaking on the domestic politics of Bangladesh, the Ambassador laid stress on constructive and meaningful dialogue among political parties so that they could agree to a mechanism for holding a free, fair, credible and participatory election. Mozena emphasized on the importance of signing the Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement (TICFA) that had come down to the issue of labor standards. He also expressed concerns over the recent incidents of forced disappearances and deteriorating human rights condition in Bangladesh.
At the programme, the ambassador gave answer to various questions of BIPSS President Major-General (Retd) Muniruzzaman and also took questions from the audience present in the Discussion Session.
