Maritime Security in the Bay of Bengal
Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) in collaboration with the British High Commission Dhaka organized an expert roundtable titled “Maritime Security in the Bay of Bengal” on 27th May, 2024 at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Dhaka. The moderator of the discussion was BIPSS President Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc, (retd). The special guests of the discussion were Mr Jamie Moncrieff, Maritime Security Specialist and Mr Spiro Marcandonatos, Maritime Security Consultant. Maritime and security experts from Bangladesh were the expert panelists of the event.
The discussion focused on the geopolitical and strategic significance of the Bay of Bengal; its traditional, non-traditional and transnational security concerns; governance of the Bay of Bengal; and its significance for Bangladesh. Recognizing Bangladesh as a maritime state, the experts urged for greater awareness and actions for ensuring maritime security in the bay of Bengal.
