Developing a Critical Understanding Against Fake News and Disinformation
BIPSS recently hosted a workshop titled, ‘Developing a Critical Understanding Against Fake News and Disinformation’ to educate the youth and cultivate the necessary thought process to be able to discern false information. The keynote speakers of the event were Sharlina Hussain-Morgan, Cultural Affairs Officer at Embassy of the United States of America in Bangladesh and Ms. Ayesha Kabir, Consulting Editor of Prothom Alo (English), who highlighted the main aspects towards understanding the phenomenon and illustrated the multi-disciplinary approach to counter disinformation and fake news.
The opening remarks were made by the Research Fellow of BIPSS and the Head of BCTR, Mr Shafqat Munir. Ms. Morgan and Ms. Kabir gave their presentations respectively and participants asked stimulating questions throughout the workshop. The event concluded with certificates being distributed to the participants.
