Advancing National Security: BIPSS-NDC Joint Seminar

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) and the National Defence College jointly organised a seminar titled ‘Advancing National Security and Development: Use of Information as a Powerful Strategic Tool’ recently. The event was held at the NDC auditorium at Mirpur Cantonment.

The joint seminar was honoured by the presence of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Water Resources as the Chief Guest. Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, OSP, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, Commandant, NDC and Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd), President, BIPSS, also spoke on the occasion. The event was attended by senior officers from the armed forces and various government departments and agencies, heads of think tanks, ambassadors and senior diplomats and members of the media, among others. The seminar was part of a two-month-long process during which NDC faculty and course members, other resource persons and senior researchers from BIPSS worked closely on several thematic areas related to the subject.

At the seminar, two thematic presentations were delivered by Mr. Shafqat Munir, Senior Research Fellow at BIPSS, and a team of course members from the National Defence Course 2025. Mr. Munir’s presentation was titled ‘Advancing National Security: Information as a New Security Frontier. In his remarks, Mr. Munir focused on the security dimensions of information warfare, both at the national and global levels, and illustrated his points with relevant examples.

The joint seminar concluded with closing remarks from the Advisor and the Commandant of NDC, underscoring the growing importance of information as a strategic resource in both security and development contexts. The recently concluded joint seminar is part of an ongoing and long-standing collaboration between the NDC and BIPSS.
