
Maj Gen Muniruzzaman Outlines Future of US-Bangladesh Relations at War College Lecture
Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd), President of the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), delivered a comprehensive and thought-provoking lecture to the esteemed members of the Armed Forces War College on 17 June 2025. His presentation, titled “Navigating Power and Partnership: The Evolution and Future of US-Bangladesh Relations”, offered an in-depth analysis of the shifting contours of bilateral relations in light of the evolving Indo-Pacific strategic order.
Drawing on decades of strategic insight and research, Major General Muniruzzaman addressed key issues including the strategic relevance of Bangladesh, the implications of great power competition of US-China dynamics, the growing scope of defense and maritime cooperation, and the critical importance of economic, energy, and climate partnerships. He emphasized the urgency for Bangladesh to recalibrate its foreign policy posture and seize the policy window of 2025 to deepen institutional ties with the United States across trade, security, and technology sectors. The lecture concluded with a call to shape a strategic partnership with the United States that is rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and long-term regional stability.
