Climate Security Bangladesh

We are delighted to announce that Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) has launched a unique project with the European Union titled, ‘Climate change and Security’. The objective of this multi-year project is to enhance the resilience and stability of Bangladesh by addressing the security implications of climate change, fostering cooperation between the European Union and Bangladesh, and promoting sustainable development and peace in the wider region.

Climate security refers to the intersection of climate change and security challenges. It recognizes that the impacts of climate change, such as extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and resource scarcity, can have profound implications for political, social, and economic stability on both local and international levels. Climate security emphasizes the interconnectedness of environmental, human, and national security.

Interface between climate security threats and role of the security sector is a unique area of study. With a focus on the intersection of climate change and security, we aim to pioneer innovative strategies that safeguard our shared future.

Our collaborative project is a testament to the power of global partnerships in confronting the challenges that lie ahead.

It may be mentioned that climate change and security has been a key area of study for BIPSS right from its inception and the President of BIPSS is the current Chairman of Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change (GMACCC).
