Building Awareness to Combat Fake News and Disinformation | August 2023
Bangladesh Institution of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and USAID, organized a workshop on “Building Awareness to Combat Fake News and Disinformation” at Hotel Bengal Blueberry, Dhaka.
In this era of rapid information sharing, verifying sources and thinking critically before believing or sharing news is crucial. We explored the dark web, discussed the dangers of unregulated media, and shared strategies to counter fake news effectively.
The speakers of the workshop Mr. Shafqat Munir, Head of BCTR, Senior Fellow at BIPSS, and Ms Lamia Rahman Tammi, Project Coordinator at BIPSS, respectively shared their valuable insights and experiences in the workshop followed by an interactive session with the participants. The participants were university students and journalists.
It was an insightful and empowering event, emphasizing the need for responsible news consumption and digital citizenship.
