Bangladesh: Foreign Policy and Geopolitics

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) recently organized an In-House Discussion on ‘Bangladesh: Foreign Policy and Geopolitics’. The keynote speaker of the discussion was Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Former Foreign Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh and also BIPSS Distinguished Fellow. In the first section Dr. Chowdhury gave the opening remarks on the history and key characteristics of the foreign policy of Bangladesh. In the second section, BIPSS International Research Interns, Nell Detre and Maxwell Harrison Goldstein posed a number of critical questions to Dr Chowdhury including topics related to relation between identity and foreign policy, alliance and geopolitics. Finally, the floor was opened for questions and comments from the attendees when the discussion revolved around the strengths and challenges of Bangladesh foreign policy, role of India, and marine diplomacy.

The attendees of the discussion included former ambassadors, representatives from embassies and academicians.
