Youth and National Security: Why Our Voice and Vote Matter

Bangladesh’s future security and stability are deeply tied to its young generation, who make up nearly one-third of the population. Their participation in voting, civic activism, digital responsibility, peacebuilding, and climate resilience highlights their central role in shaping democracy and national strength. At the same time, challenges such as unemployment, political distrust, misinformation, and risks of radicalization remain serious obstacles that could undermine this potential.

In her commentary, BIPSS Research Intern Tiva Tasha argues that empowering youth through education, employment opportunities, responsible digital engagement, and platforms for civic and global participation will be key to safeguarding democracy and strengthening resilience. By turning their energy and creativity into constructive action, Bangladesh’s youth can serve as both guardians and innovators, ensuring a more secure and prosperous nation in the years ahead.
