The Rise of Climate-Driven Security Threats in South Asia: A Case Study of Bangladesh
BIPSS Research Assistant Saraf Wasima, in this commentary, examined the rising climate-driven security threats in South Asia, using Bangladesh as a case study. She highlighted the country’s vulnerability due to its low-lying topography, frequent extreme weather events, and climate-induced displacement. This commentary underscores the intersection of climate change with national security, human displacement, and resource scarcity, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive climate security strategy. She advocates for stronger governance, regional cooperation, and climate-responsive defense policies to address both immediate and long-term climate risks, positioning Bangladesh as a potential model for resilience in the region.
