Resource Nationalism in Energy Transition: What It Means for Bangladesh

BIPSS Research Intern Zoheb Ahnaf Tibro highlighted in this commentary the impact of resource nationalism on the global energy transition, focusing on the competition for critical minerals like lithium and cobalt essential for renewable technologies. For Bangladesh, heavily reliant on fossil fuels and energy imports, the challenges of transitioning to renewables are compounded by limited resources, financial constraints, and rising global demand for critical minerals. The country’s renewable energy contribution remains minimal, and geopolitical tensions over mineral supply chains threaten its progress. To overcome these challenges, the commentary emphasizes diversifying energy sources, boosting domestic renewable energy production, and leveraging international partnerships for sustainable energy development.
