
Gen. Muniruzzaman Briefs RCDS on Climate Security Challenges in South Asia
Major General A N M Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (Retd), President of Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), delivered a comprehensive briefing to the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) 2025 delegation in Dhaka recently. The 19-members of the RCDS course delegation comprised of senior military officers, government officials, and private sector representatives from 13 countries, including the UK, Germany, Ukraine, Jordan, Nigeria, Australia, and others.
In his presentation, General Muniruzzaman addressed the multifaceted security implications of climate change, with a particular focus on Bangladesh and the South Asian region. He highlighted key threats such as climate-induced displacement, resource competition, and regional instability, while highlighting BIPSS’s pioneering role in climate security discourse through its leadership of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change (GMACCC) and EU-funded initiatives.
The session was moderated by Mr. Shafqat Munir, Senior Research Fellow at BIPSS, and concluded with a dynamic Q&A segment that encouraged rich discussion on global climate risks, regional cooperation, and climate-resilient security strategies.
