Evolving Dynamics in Rakhine: Security Implications for Bangladesh

Bangladesh Institute of Peace & Security Studies(BIPSS) recently hosted an In-House Discussion on the topic “Evolving Dynamics in Rakhine: Security Implications for Bangladesh”, where a keynote presentation was made by Mr. Steve Ross, Senior Fellow, The Stimson Center, Washington DC. Mr. Shafqat Munir, Senior Research Fellow at BIPSS, chaired the session. Along with Mr. Ross, prominent diplomats, former ambassadors, journalists, security experts and BIPSS research team were also present at the discussion.

Having several years of experience in leading projects to address conflict in Myanmar and to respond to the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh, Mr. Ross shared his thoughtful insights and analysis on the ongoing Rohingya Crisis. He focused on the increasing humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya population and showed concerns on the declining donor assistance. He further addressed some current security dynamics of the Rakhine region and suggested some ways forward. During the Q&A session, the distinguished participants also shared their valuable opinions.
