BIPSS President at NSU: Decoding Modern Security

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at North South University (NSU) hosted a talk on 17 July 2025, titled ‘The Security Code for This Century: Priorities for a New Era’, as part of its Distinguished Lecture Series. The keynote address was delivered by Major General A N M Muniruzzaman (Retd.), President of the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), and the session was chaired by NSU Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury. The event began with opening remarks from Professor Md. Rizwanul Islam, Dean of SHSS, who underscored the importance of rethinking national and global security paradigms in response to rapidly evolving threats and technologies.

In his keynote, Major General Muniruzzaman highlighted the urgent need to move beyond traditional, state-centric military approaches toward a comprehensive, adaptive, and human-centric security framework. He emphasized the integration of cutting-edge technologies like AI, data-driven predictive systems, and the ethical use of technology in safeguarding public trust and resilience in an age of misinformation.

The session fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas among the participants and the keynote speaker, touching on critical issues such as the role of advanced technologies (AI, robotics, quantum computing) in future conflicts, the rise of multi-domain and cognitive warfare, and the need for network-centric systems like JADC2.

Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury closed the session by highlighting the responsibility of academic institutions to contribute meaningfully to national security discussions and policy formulation. The event ended with a crest handover ceremony in recognition of the guest’s contributions, marking a significant moment of collaboration between the academic and strategic communities.
