A Small Littoral State Perspective on the Desecuritization of Indo-Pacific Strategy

BIPSS Research Intern Nazmul Islam Mahmud urged in his commentary that Small Littoral States (SLS) must pursue desecuritization through strategic denial and multi-domain hedging to preserve autonomy amid great power rivalry. He emphasized that regional security dynamics pose a greater sovereignty threat than external pressures. Mahmud noted that balancing between political, economic, and military domains helps SLS maintain strategic independence. Ultimately, he highlighted that effective autonomy depends on internal resilience within each Regional Security Complex (RSC).
