Multi-Domain Defense Force for the Future Battlespace

BIPSS Research Assistant Mohosina Mostofa Mity explored in this commentary the evolving nature of warfare, emphasizing the need for a multi-domain defense force (MDDF) that operates across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. She presented examples such as the Nagorno-Karabakh, South China Sea, and Russia-Ukraine conflicts to show how modern battles involve integrating technology, intelligence, and cyber capabilities. MDDFs improve flexibility and resilience in defense strategies are there, but challenges like technological integration, interoperability, and cybersecurity risks also persist. Looking ahead, the U.S., Japan, and Australia are enhancing their MDDF capabilities to handle increasingly complex security threats by 2025.
